Compress Images

Compress multiple images at once. Two modes: quality mode — drag the slider to trade clarity for smaller size; max size mode — set a target (e.g. under 500 KB) and it compresses automatically. Output as JPG, PNG or WebP. Everything runs locally in your browser — images are never uploaded.

HandoutPress compresses batches of JPG, PNG or WebP images by quality or to a target file size, directly in your browser. No uploads, no signup, completely free.

PNG output shrinks by gently reducing color depth (great for screenshots, icons and graphics); for photos, choose JPG or WebP for a better ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which compression mode should I choose?

Use quality mode to freely control clarity — lower slider, smaller file. Use max size mode when you have a hard limit (e.g. a 500 KB upload cap); it compresses automatically to hit the target.

Which output format should I pick?

JPG for photos (smallest, universally compatible), PNG for screenshots and icons (keeps transparency), WebP for the smallest files at the same quality. Choose "Same as source" to keep each image's original format.

Why is my PNG not much smaller?

PNG is lossless, so it compresses by gently reducing color depth — very effective for screenshots, icons and graphics. For photos, choose JPG or WebP output for a much better ratio.

Which input formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP, with no limit on the number of files. Drag to reorder files or use the arrow buttons to set the compression order.
