Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-10-15

This policy explains how HandoutPress handles (and does not handle) your data. Our core commitment: your files are processed only inside your browser and are never uploaded to any server.

1Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using handoutpress.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use (the "Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2Description of the service

HandoutPress provides free, browser-based tools for creating handouts and converting documents and images. All processing takes place locally on your own device; your files are never uploaded to our servers.

3No registration; eligibility

The Service requires no account. You must be at least 13 years old (or meet the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, e.g., 16 in the EEA) to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.

4License to use

We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the Service for personal and internal business purposes. The files you create with the Service belong entirely to you.

5Acceptable use

You agree: not to use the Service to process unlawful, infringing or malicious content where such use violates applicable law; not to interfere with or disrupt the Service (including automated scraping, excessive automated requests, or security testing without written permission); not to reverse engineer the Service except as permitted by applicable law; and to comply with all applicable laws, including export control and sanctions regulations.

6Your content

You retain all rights to the files you process. Because processing is local, we never receive copies of your content and cannot recover it. You are solely responsible for the content you process, for verifying the accuracy and completeness of any output, and for keeping backups of your original files.

7Beta features

Tools labeled "Beta" are pre-release features. They may be unstable, produce inaccurate results, or be modified or discontinued at any time without notice. Use them with particular care for important documents, and always verify the output before relying on it.

8Intellectual property

The Service — including its design, source code, branding and text — is owned by HandoutPress and protected by intellectual property laws. Third-party names and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners. Your use of the Service grants you no rights in our intellectual property beyond the license in Section 4.

9Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Statutory consumer rights that cannot be excluded remain unaffected (in particular for consumers in the EU/EEA and the UK).

10Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, HandoutPress shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or revenue arising from your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed USD 100. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for intent or gross negligence, or under mandatory product liability laws, and nothing limits consumer rights that cannot be excluded under mandatory law.

11Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HandoutPress from any claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

12Availability and changes

We may add, modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice, including individual tools (in particular Beta features). We are not obligated to maintain any specific tool or feature.

13Third-party services

The Service may reference or link to third-party software or services (for example, optional local companion applications). Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.

14Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the operator's principal place of business, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Consumers in the EU, EEA and UK may bring claims in their country of residence and retain the protection of mandatory local consumer law (including the Rome I Regulation).

15Severability; entire agreement

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and HandoutPress regarding the Service.

16Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "last updated" date indicates the current version. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
